BRASILIA, 09 JULY 2021 – The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia, Brazil organized an event to celebrate International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) on 09 July 2021. The Embassy organized a Flag-Raising Ceremony with brief speech by the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia Charge d’ affaires, Ms. Leilani S. Feliciano and a PP Presentation to commemorate IDADAIT.
Brasilia PE Charge d’ affaires, Ms. Leilani S. Feliciano delivered a brief speech at the flag raising. She explained that based on Presidential Proclamation No. 264 in June 1988, the annual observance of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (IDADAIT) was spearheaded by the Dangerous Drugs Board. This serves as the Philippine Government’s reiteration of the commitment to national goal of freeing the Philippine society from the evils of drug abuse and illicit trafficking with this year’s theme, “Share Facts on Drugs, Save Lives.”
The undersigned explained that the Philippines’ drug problem requires a whole-of-nation approach to address. The theme encourages the dissemination of relevant and accurate information to the Filipino people to mitigate the negative impact of false information and bolster the public’s knowledge to make them less susceptible to exploitation. The drug menace can only be effectively addressed through a myriad of strategies that have to be operationalized and reinforced by the PH Government’s intensified campaign to curb drug abuse, trade and illicit trafficking on various fronts.
Consul General Mr. Ariz Severino V. Convalecer delivered a PowerPoint Presentation on Post’s efforts in addressing drug-related ATN cases, some of which led to legal cases in Brazil. These involved cases of Filipinos who served as drug mules or couriers in a major transshipment points such as Sao Paulo Airport.
After the presentation, the Embassy personnel had a lunch where social distancing was strictly observed. END.
