09 December 2021, Brasilia – Philippine Ambassador-designate Mario F. Chan called on the Chargé d’Affaires of the Singaporean Embassy in Brasilia, Mr. Desmond Ng, at the latter’s Chancery on 09 December 2021.
Cd’A Ng, whose previous foreign service postings include Manila, Riyadh and Tokyo, shared valuable experiences with Ambassador-designate Chan on the intricacies of diplomatic life in Brazil, including practical advice on cultivating relations with the host government. The Singaporean Cd’A likewise shared the activities of the ASEAN Committee in Brasilia (ACB), including visits to important economic development areas outside of Brasilia which are regularly conducted by the ASEAN Heads of Missions in Brasilia. ASEAN countries represented with missions in Brasilia are Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.
The Philippine Ambassador-designate and the Singaporean Cd’A exchanged views on the pandemic situation in Brazil, expressing hopefulness over the host government’s response to the public health crisis. They also touched upon the detrimental effect of the pandemic on Brazil’s world-famous Carnaval which has been cancelled for the past two years since the pandemic began.
Delving further on the economic front, both Heads of Mission discussed the Philippines and Singapore’s experiences on the importation of Brazilian beef into their respective countries, and the efforts exerted by Brazil to further promote this key national export.
