This country has the world’s top three most beautiful islands

Boracay was named the best island in the world by Conde Nast Traveler's readers.

The travel mag’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards, which surveyed more than 30 thousand globetrotters, released its winners on Monday.

Boracay used to be a hidden oasis for backpackers, but in recent years it has seen a surge in travelers flocking to its powdery white beaches. In the past decade, luxe hotel chain Shangri-La and a slew of boutique hotels have set up shop — a sign that the island is modernizing.

But that wasn’t the only Philippine island that made the list. Cebu and Palawan came in second and third place respectively.

And despite ongoing political strife — portions of Southern Philippines are currently under martial law — tourism in the Southeast Asian country has increased by 2.3 percent in 2016, according to the Philippines Statistics Authority.
