H.E. MARICHU B. MAURO
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
UPON joining the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs in 1995, Ambassador Marichu B. Mauro was assigned to the Economic Diplomacy Unit until 1996 when she was appointed Acting Director at the Office of Middle East and African Affairs. In 1997, Ambassador Mauro was assigned as Third Secretary at the Embassy of the Philippines in Manama, Bahrain and then as Second Secretary and Consul to the Embassy of the Philippines in Tel Aviv, Israel in 2001 until 2003. It was a very interesting time for Ms. Mauro and an important experience as the six years she spent in the Middle East will lay a good foundation for her future assignments particularly in the area of community relations and assistance to Filipino nationals.
Ambassador Mauro returned to the Home Office in 2003 as Special Assistant in the Office of the Undersecretary for Special Concerns and handled political issues. She was later on appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Overseas Absentee Voting Secretariat under the same office.
In 2006, Ambassador Mauro was assigned as First Secretary and Consul at the Embassy of the Philippines to Belgium and Luxembourg, and Philippine Mission to the European Union in Brussels, Belgium and later on as Career Minister and Consul General. The six years Ambassador Mauro spent in Brussels would further hone her skills in bilateral political relations having been made in-charge of Philippine relations with the European Union. Her stint in Brussels would later on lead to her assuming the position of Executive Director of the Office of European Affairs upon her return to the Home Office in 2012.
In 2014, Ambassador Mauro was assigned as Consul General to the Philippine Consulate General in Milan, Italy. This was the first time Ambassador Mauro was given a Head of Post position. During her stint as Consul General, Ambassador Mauro oversaw the needs of more than 150,000 Filipinos living and working in Milan and Northern Italy. Ambassador Mauro made it her mission to streamline the Consulate´s services and to bring the Consulate closer to the Filipino community.
Under her leadership, Ambassador Mauro has increased the number of consular outreach services to better serve the many Filipinos living all over Northern Italy. She has made headway in making the Filipinos under her jurisdiction aware of their rights and privileges as foreign workers by making high-level representations to various authorities and conducting collaborative projects with the Italian government. Under Ambassador Mauro´s supervision and leadership, the Philippine Government was able to purchase a property in 2017 that would serve as the permanent site of the Philippine Consulate General in Milan, Italy.
Ambassador Mauro presented her credentials to the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil, His Excellency Michel Temer, on 25 April 2018 at the Planalto Palace. Ms. Mauro hopes to further enhance the existing bilateral relations with Brazil and the countries under the Embassy´s jurisdiction, namely, Colombia, Guyana, Suriname and Venezuela, through the various projects and activities in the political, economic, tourism, and other fields of cooperation.
