A consular outreach team from the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia, composed of Third Secretary and Vice Consul Eric P. Valenzuela and Consular/Assistance-To-Nationals (ATN) Assistant and Voter Registration Machine (VRM) Operator Joey A. Espolong, visited Guyana and Suriname for consular missions and overseas voter registration from October 09 to 13.
A total of 77 passport applicants and 124 overseas voters from Guyana and Suriname availed of the services provided by the mobile team during the weekend mission. The Embassy team also accepted applications for civil registration, notarization and citizenship reacquisition.
Vice Consul Valenzuela also met with Inspector Judith Babel of the Immigration Department of Suriname to discuss the immigration-related concerns of the Filipino workers.
Suriname is home to about 800 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in hospitals, hotels, fishing companies and commercial establishments, among others. On the other hand, there are about 100 Filipinos in Guyana, mostly employed in logging companies.
