PHL Embassy in Brasilia Launches 4TH Philippine Gastronomic Festival in Porto Alegre

The Philippine Embassy in Brasilia, in collaboration with Sheraton Hotel Porto Alegre, successfully launched the 4th Philippine Gastronomic Festival at the hotel’s Porto Alegre Bistrô. The three-day event showcased Filipino cuisine and appetizing dishes prepared by Filipina Chef Remedios Morales Prado (from Fiesta Philippines in Brasilia) and Sheraton’s renowned Executive Chef, Mauro Sousa.

The hotel guests had a taste of savory Filipino dishes, such as sweet and sour fish, adobong manok, ginataang hipon, lumpiang sariwa, ensaladang talong, embutido, tofu withpechay in oyster sauce, fish kinilaw and pansit. They also partook, with enjoyment, delectable desserts, such as turon (which has become the number one favorite among the guests), the famous brazo de mercedes, buko pandan and the Filipino version of sans rival. During the Festival, the Embassy also gave a free tasting of mango rum to the great delight of the restaurant guests.

The Filipino menu was widely acclaimed by the Hotel's choice clientele, which included food critics, journalists, tourists, businessmen, and local officials. Guests at the dinner, which hosted by the Philippine Embassy on November 06, expressed enjoyment of the Philippine cuisine – some of whom are their first-ever occasion to taste Philippine food.

The event provided the opportunity for the Embassy to promote Philippine culture and tourism in this part of Brazil. Philippine tourism and cultural promotion materials as well as a sampler of dried mangoes were given away as souvenirs to the hotel guests and special patrons during the festival, while traditional Philippine music serenaded guests to evoke the Filipino festive mood.

As part of Sheraton Hotel’s yearly gastronomy event, the hotel selects and features a particular country’s cuisine. The Philippine cuisine holds the honor of being featured for four consecutive years in the hotel’s major yearly event to the pride of the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia.

Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Jose D.R. Burgos was joined by Dr. Blesilda Mansilla Burgos, Philippine Honorary Consul Gerenal Dr. Somchai Ansuj, Ms. Helena D. Tan, Mr. Guillermo C. Reyes and Ms. Leila Oliveira Carreiro during the 4th Philippine Food Festival in Porto Alegre. END
