Philippine Ambassador Meets Brazil Navy Chief
Philippine Ambassador to Brazil Jose D.R. Burgos met with Admiral Eduardo Bacellar Leal Ferreira, Chief of the Brazilian Navy, to explore the possibility of greater naval cooperation between the Philippines and Brazil.
Admiral Ferreira was keen on exploring areas of cooperation between the Navies of the two countries. He said that the Brazilian Navy is responsible not only for the training of naval officers, but also of merchant marine officers and sailors. Brazil has merchant marine training packages, which he offered to Filipino mariners. The training, however, is conducted in Portuguese.
For his part, Ambassador Burgos proposed that the Brazilian Navy send some of its middle senior naval officials (Commander to Captain in rank) to attend the Master in National Security Administration (MNSA) course offered by the National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP).
