Philippine Embassy In Brasilia Holds Flag-Raising Ceremony And Katutubong Palarong Pilipino 2017
The traditional Flag-Raising Ceremony and annual sports festival kicked off the Philippine Embassy in Brasilia’s week-long celebration of the 119th Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence on 11 June 2017 at the Embassy grounds in Brasilia, Brazil.
Led by Consul General Ariz Severino V. Convalecer, Chargé d’affaires ad interim, the Embassy personnel, members of the Filipino community and special guests raised the Philippine flag in the early Sunday morning accompanied by live music from the Casa Azul Children’s Brass Band.
CDA Convalecer and Second Secretary and Consul Eric P. Valenzuela read the National Day Messages of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano, respectively.
This year marked the first Katutubong Palarong Pilipino featuring traditional games such as patintero, karera ng bao, sipa-bola and pabitin. Kids from Casa Azul joined about forty Filipinos and their families in playing the traditional Filipino games.

The players do the warm-up and stretching exercises before the games. Kids from the Casa Azul Children’s Brass Band join the Filcom members in playing the tradiional Filipino games such as Patintero. Brazilian kids race against each other in the Karera ng Bao. Members of the Casa Azul Children’s Brass Band receive their prizes and certificates from CDA Convalecer. And the 2017 over-all winner is… the Red Team!
