Brasilia PE played host to about 400 members of the diplomatic corps and Brazilian government officials during a gala dinner celebration of the 121st Anniversary of Philippine Independence on 12 June 2019 at the Philippine Embassy grounds in Brasilia.
The Embassy grounds, the biggest Philippine government-owned property abroad, was transformed into a lavish party venue to entertain all the guests who also included members of various civic organizations and business corporations.
Guest of honor was Ambassador Reinaldo Salgado, Deputy Minister for Asia and the Pacific of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil.
In his remarks, Ambassador Salgado emphasized the important role that the Philippines play in the Southeast Asian region. He also highlighted that the Philippines is Brazil´s very first and the oldest partner in Asia.
Ambassador Salgado joined Ambassador Marichu Mauro in the symbolic cutting of the cake featuring the flags of the Philippines and Brazil to signify the very close relationship of the two countries.
Ambassador Mauro acknowledged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ support of Brasilia PE´s initiatives which saw the bilateral ties between the two countries grow from strength to strength since her arrival in Brazil last year.
Ambassador Mauro delivered her speech entirely in Portuguese to the delight of the Brazilians.
A group of Filpinos and Brazilians sang the national hymns of Brazil and the Philippines. A dance troupe composed of teenagers performed traditional Filipino dances. The official program ended with a fireworks display to further enhance the celebratory mood of the occasion.
