FilCom in Brasilia learn about laws and practical techniques to protect them from sexual harassment
Around 30 Filipino migrant workers in Brasilia were in attendance for the lecture on sexual harassment in the workplace and self-defense training at the Philippine Embassy on 16 February 2020. Most of the attendees were women.
Part of the Embassy’s Gender and Development (GAD) Program, the timely lecture and practical training aims to increase awareness among women especially about sexual harassment and the Brazilian laws that protects them against these situations. The self-defense training gives them more practical skills to use to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations.
Atty. Heloisa Storniolo Adegas, a legal adviser of the Feminist Empowerment Movement in Brasilia gave a presentation about the fundamental rights of women and the existing laws that protect women against sexual harassment.
Master Herbert Inocalla, a Filipino-Brazilian martial arts expert, presided over the self-defense training.
